More flags, NOT more fun

I forgot to blog about my last week in July. First of all, Isaiah learned to pick his nose that week. Exciting.

From the 23rd to the 26th, I helped out a friend of mine and played piano for vacation bible school. He's basically the music director at a church in Dixon, and every so often he needs a pianist and gives me a ring. What a rough 4 days that was! I had to be in Dixon by 5:00 everyday, so I had to leave work by 4 at the latest to pick Isaiah up from grandma's and make it on time. Luckily, Dixon is on the way home from Vince's work, so I made him stop and take care of Isaiah while I was playing. Let me tell you, VBS songs stay with you....I dreamt of the tunes every night. Maybe they were nightmares. I was so happy when the Thursday session was over....oddly, I had the urge to get wasted.

On Saturday the 28th, we went to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo (formerly known as Marine World). My friend Mary works for the state, and apparently...it was state worker's day so she got a great deal on tickets (with free parking). Holy crap, I would NEVER pay for parking if I had to! $15! Are you kidding me?? On the way there, we stopped in Fairfield to visit friends Eddie and Joyette and their new bundle of joy, Edwin III. Um, Isaiah was NOT happy about this stop. I held the baby and at first, Isaiah just stood there and stared at me. Then, he flung himself on the floor, started screaming/crying and rolling around! Then, he went into is hyperventilating cry. Can we say, jealous? Yikes. I held Isaiah soon after and told him I still loved him...but come on! Vince then held the baby, and Isaiah started clawing his way up his leg, crying. Then, as I was holding Isaiah and giving him his milk, Vince says, "hey, let me see his milk...I want to give it to the baby." I was going to punch him! That's just mean. Luckily, Giada was on tv making some pasta (duh) and that calmed Isaiah down.

Okay, so after the visit, we made our way to Six Flags and stood in line to cross the street from the parking lot, stood in line to get our bags checked, stood in line to give them our pre-purchased tickets, and stood in line for the bathroom. Great day so far, right? So we decide we should get on a roller coaster early and get the rides out of the way.....
Jenni, Ryan, and I stood in line for the new Tony Hawk coaster (I don't remember what it's called) for an hour. We made it halfway through the line. Then we walked out. Ridiculous! Then we decided to go to ride another coaster with more cars...thinking the line would go faster. I think we were in line for 1.5 hours for the Medusa coaster. Then it was already time for our buffet lunch (2:00). The buffet consisted of "grilled" hotdogs and hamburgers (though I've never had a grilled hamburger served in juices), wilted iceberg salad, vinegery pasta salad with pickles in it (weird), ice cream sandwiches, and sodas. There was supposed to be chicken...hm. And porky pork truly ate a hotdog, 2 hamburgers, and 2 ice cream sandwiches. Don't judge me.

After, Vince and I took Isaiah to Thomas Town with Mary and her family. Vince stood in line with Isaiah to ride the helicopter ride and when he got to the front, the lady measured Vince and said "You're too tall. You can't get on with him." So he ducked and said "No I'm not!" Doh! Didn't work. So I took Isaiah on the ride and sat in front so I could control the helicopter movements (since Isaiah is too young to know how to do it anyway). The lady then comes and tells me I can't sit in front because it's only for kids. What?!?! It's not like I didn't fit! Anyway, I rolled my eyes and sat in back with Isaiah on my lap so he could see. Then she comes back and tells me he can't sit there and has to sit next to me. Okay, the ride became pointless because he couldn't see. I have pictures, maybe I'll post later.

Then we rode Thomas and it went in a circle for a whole 45 seconds. Yippee.

Then we went to the Shouka Orca show....which was fun. We didn't get splashed, thank goodness. But I burned my scalp again! The sun was HOT. Then we saw the butterfly exhibit, looked at the lions, looked at tigers, and decided to leave. It was already 5 and we were exhausted! And we all realized that we will never go there again. I remember when that place was just Marine World....it was awesome. The cool aquariums, the fun water shows, the dancing water on the sidewalks....those were the days.

For Ryan's birthday, which we celebrated that evening, we were supposed to go to Spataro for dinner, but changed plans to Chicago Fire. We had reservations at 8. By the time we all got cleaned up, we were all late. Dinner was okay...the pizza was good. I ate the all meat pizza and neglected to try the chicago fire combo, which was also at our table. Darn. Then we made our way to Faces at around 10:30 and nobody was there. Faces is usually pretty full (and pretty sweaty because of all the people) but it was dead. We started out in the techno-ish room, and then moved to the hip-hop room (which I call the "mexican grabbing room" because I usually get squeezed in there by straight mexican dudes hanging out at the bar). I went into the DJ booth (which is my favorite thing to do), and told the DJ that it was Ryan's birthday and to play Danity Kane's song "Damaged" for him. He didn't have it in this booth. What?! So then I asked him to play Missy Elliot's "Lose Control" instead, since he did have that one (this is the song that my wedding DJ refused to play again for Ryan...*sigh*). He said he would. We waited. 45 minutes later, we left. No song. Boo on you, Faces. Happy Birthday to Ryan anyways.

After Faces, we ended up at Badlands across the street, and that place is really nice. They have an upstairs lounge area with its own bar. But oddly enough, this place was pretty empty, too. What's the deal, where was everybody? We were only there maybe a half hour though; Ryan was already wasted anyway, and I decided it was time to pick Isaiah up from grandma's and head home. Ryan passed out in the car.
